Lego fever at Stockley Academy

Posted by Dan Coombs on Nov 13, 09 03:27 PM in Schools/colleges

ONE month since the UK's first Lego education centre launched, it is going from strength to strength.

The centre was launched at Stockley Academy, in Park View Road, Yiewsley, and since it began, students are feeling its benefit.

It is aimed at getting youngsters to enjoy science, technology and maths, allowing them to create robots and programming them.

Such is the keenness of students to get involved, after school clubs have now formed, and the Academy is in discussions with primary schools around Hillingdon to allow them to use the centre.

Lin Dickens, who works at the Academy, said: "Since it has opened, more and more students have become involved- the excitement has been contagious."

The Lego education centre has also seen the Academy shortlisted for an Education Business Award, and next week students will meet Apollo 16 astronaut Charlie Duke, the 10th man to walk on the moon.

We'd like to hear from you.
