A SIX figure sum has been ear marked to develop a Yiewsley children's centre.

Up to £600,050 has been allocated to fund contractors for the centre at Yiewsley Baptist Church in Colham Avenue, Yiewsley.

The cash is part of a £5.4 million Sure Start grant from the Government to Hillingdon Council aimed at creating a children's centre in every community.

So far 12 centres have been designated for development across the borough with several more set to be announced.

Each centre provides a range of services including outreach and family support teams and health visitors.

A spokeswoman from Hillingdon Council said: "Children's centres aim to provide a range of services and activities to help improve the outcomes for all young children and their families, supporting parents in bringing up their children giving advice on family health and allowing the family to have access to adult education and employment opportunities."
Newly completed centres at Oak Farm in Hillingdon and Ballymore in Hayes are due to be opened in the next few months.
