Owner's search for missing pet dog

Posted by Adrian Seal on Sep 10, 08 10:24 AM in Crime

A TEENAGER is heartbroken after her pet dog went missing in Hayes Town when it was left outside Iceland food store.

The much loved Yorkshire Terrier named Scrappy disappeared on Monday, September 8 at about 5.30pm and the family have put posters in the town centre and in West Drayton and Yiewsley to urge people who may have seen it to contact them.

Scrappy's owner Laura Gerred, 16 said: "I am just really upset and hoping someone gets in touch, Scrappy means a lot to me and I have had him ever since I was young, he's just a little dog and gets scared easily."

She described the pet as a cross between a Yorkshire terrier and a Jack Russell. It is a strawberry blonde in colour and also has warts on its back and is tagged with a chip.

What kind of people stoop so low as to cause heartbreak by stealing a valued family member? It's no good, I suppose, trying to get inside the minds of these low-lives to discover what is missing from their brains. Human nature is basically compassionate and caring and these creatures act outside those realms. When a dog is stolen away from its family, it suffers, not to mention the suffering its loss brings to those who have loved and cared for it. Yet these people are being allowed to get away with it because there seems to be nothing the police are prepared to do. No one sees anything, no one offers information and so the suffering to both animal and owners continues. Wounds do not heal. Thirty years after my dog was taken from me, I still wonder about her. These people who have taken Scrappy cannot begin to understand the suffering they are causing to his owners. To see his little bed unslept in, his little bowl empty is heartbreaking. Whoever has him, please search the deepest parts of your heart and find some human compassion to return him to Laura.
