Catapult gang leaves trail of broken glass

Posted by Graham Spence on Jun 17, 08 03:38 PM in Crime

A GANG firing a catapult loaded with ball bearings has struck more than 30 times in the past few months causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

Police have confirmed 37 incidents over the past three to four months in Yiewsley and Cowley.

Residents have reported seeing a gang leaning out of a car's windows and firing the ball bearings or stones through car, shop and home windows.

A West Drayton homeowner, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: "They're firing these at shops and cars. They've gone clean through the windows - if one hit someone it would probably kill them.

"The amount of damage caused to my car was £1,000. They're causing a lot of problems for people and nothing is being done about it."

Pharmaceuticals company Parexel in Oxford Road, Uxbridge, confirmed its office had been targeted, but declined to comment.

Detective Inspector Mark Brooks, of the Beat Crime Unit, said: "The offences reported of this nature are being investigated by my team.

"I urge people to report any such incident, and if they have further information in relation to these incidents please contact us."
